Yo-Yo Frequently Asked Questions

Please read the FAQ and see if the questions you are planning to ask me have been addressed.

What yo-yo do you use?
The one that I use these days are the Spintastic Tiger Shark and YoYoJam Matrix.

What's the best yo-yo?
Does the best have to mean the most expensive? Not in my opinion. There are $100 yo-yo's and there are $1 yo-yo's. You can get a good yo-yo for about $10-$30. You don't have to spend more than that.

I'm having problems with this trick. Any tips?
I know you've probably heard this a billion times but let me say it again, "Practice." That's the only way you're going to get it. What you might want to do is break the trick down into it's components and practice each section. Let's just say you wanted to learn the "Hydrogen Bomb." Break it down. Practice the "Over/Under" mount till you get it. Then move onto the underpasses etc.

What's your favourite trick?
The first trick that impressed the hell out of me was Man on the Trapeze. I remember practicing for hours landing the yoyo on the string. Everytime it landed, I'd feel a sense of accomplishment. As simple as it is, to this day, it's still one of my favourite tricks.

Do you plan to add more tricks to KWOS?
KWOS was built from the ground up as a site to teach people beginner to semi-advanced yoyo tricks. I think I covered most of the fundamental tricks already. The new yo-yo tricks are much too complicated to illustrate. Video is more suitable for learning those. I illustrated the tricks as I learned them. I like documenting things and quite enjoy drawing them. I can do every trick I can draw or draw every trick I can do :) I did have tricks that were never completed in my old backups some where. Maybe one day I'll try to dig them up and complete them. ;)

What was the most difficult trick to illustrate?
Rock the Baby on the Eiffel Tower was a doozy. I remember it was really hard to learn that trick. Drawing it was just as difficult. I had to figure out a way to illustrate it so it was understandable.

Who's hands are those?
They are my hands and no one elses. I wonder if I can be a hand model.... hmmm..

Why are your videos are so bad? I can't see the string or anything.
I made those clips with a really old web cam many years ago. I also converted some of them from the old defunct VIVO format to DivX, so it makes it even worse. Luckily, I had the originals for most of them. But the source camera is the major cause of the problem.

Is that really you in the videos?
Yeah, don't I look fat? I've lost some weight since then, whew! But now I'm immortalized forever in video. In a way I'm glad the webcam was grainy and low quality.

Why can't I view your videos?
You need DivX codecs to view them. It will play within an IE windows (doesn't work in Firefox). It's probably best if you download them and view them with your favourite media player like VLC or Media Player Classic.

How many yo yo's do you have?
I have about 40. I only use a handful of them. I carry a Henry Viper in my backpack.

What do you do for a living?
I'm a student/IT guy.

What are your other hobbies?
Snowboarding, roller hockey, F1 racing, anime
